An input distribution-cum-demonstration programme conducted under the NABARD-funded project ‘Promotion of Improved Indigenous Backyard Poultry through Scientific Interventions for Sustainable Poultry Production and Livelihood Security in Goa’ at the Poultry Unit of ICAR- Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute, Goa on 8th, 13th, 30th and 31st May 2024.

Dr. Parveen Kumar, Director, ICAR-CCARI Goa interacted with the beneficiaries and urged them to be self-sufficient through sustainable poultry farming.

POULTRY

Dr. Nibedita Nayak, Scientist, and PI of the project, highlighted the objective of the project and briefed about the brooding of chicks and management at every stage of rearing chicken.

Dr. Amiya Ranjan Sahu, Scientist and Co-PI of the project, emphasised the preventive measures to avoid infection in backyard poultry and provided effective solutions and a vaccination schedule.  

Dr. Shirish Narnaware, Senior Scientist (Veterinary Pathology) & Section I/C (Animal & Fishery Science), spoke about the terms and conditions of the project and the health management of the chicks. He also accentuated the adoption of sustainable poultry farming practices.

Technical assistance and demonstrations on using the feeder and precise drinker were provided during the programme. The farmers received baby chicks, 30 kg of chick feed, one feeder, and one waterer during the event.

A total of 27 farmers from Bardez taluka of Goa attended the programme.

Annual Review Meeting of AICRP on Poultry Breeding and Poultry Seed Project

2nd– 3rd May 2024, Nagaland

The annual review meeting of All India Coordinated Research Project on Poultry Breeding and Poultry Seed Project for the year 2022-23 was organized at ICAR Research Complex for North Eastern Hill Region, Nagaland Centre, Jharnapani, Medziphema, Nagaland on 2nd & 3rd May 2024.

Dr. Raghavendra Bhatta, Deputy Director General (Animal Science) ICAR praised the AICRP for its significant contribution to the poultry sector’s development over the past 50 years. He also emphasized the need to increase backyard poultry’s contribution to total production.

Dr. G.K. Gaur, Assistant Director General (AP&B), ICAR accentuated the need to conserve the indigenous chicken breeds and large-scale dissemination of superior backyard poultry. He further emphasized developing entrepreneurs and second-line breeders in rural poultry.

Dr. R.N. Chatterjee, Director, ICAR-Directorate of Poultry Research, Hyderabad highlighted the genesis of the Project and its salient achievements made during the last 50 years.

Dr. Girish Patil, Director, NRC Mithun praised the ICAR-DPR, Hyderabad and AICRP on Poultry Breeding for its significant contribution to the livelihoods of the NEH Region.

Dr. U. Raj kumar, In-charge, AICRP on Poultry Breeding, ICAR-DPR, Hyderabad presented the action taken report and the progress report of the project during the year 2022-23.

Dr. H. Kalita, Head of the Regional Centre, ICAR Nagaland Centre highlighted the impact of the project in North East in general and in Nagaland in particular.

The PIs presented the progress of the centres, which were reviewed by the Deputy Director General, Assistant Director General, and Director of ICAR-DPR, Hyderabad, offering constructive suggestions for improvement.

The centre charge of 12 AICRP on Poultry Breeding and 12 Poultry Seed Project Centres covering different states of the country and the scientists from ICAR-RC for NEH Region, Nagaland Centre and NRC-Mithun, participated in the Review Meeting.

State-Level Incubator’s Conclave

NaaViC Agri-Business Incubation Centre, ICAR-National Institute of Veterinary Epidemiology and Disease Informatics, Yelahanka, Bengaluru organized a State level Incubator Conclave uniting 33 Incubators over for those who are operating in the state of Karnataka implementing flagship programme of both Central & State at Karnataka Science and Technology Academy, Yelahanka, Bengaluru, today.

The Guest of Honour Dr. S. Devarajan, President BCIC, and Dr. B. R. Gulati, Director, ICAR-NIVEDI, graced the occasion.

The conclave included Industry Partners represented by BCIC along with K-Tech from the Government of Karnataka end. NaaViC is at the forefront of incubation in Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services and has been a key player in executing the RKVY-RAFTAAR programme under the flagship of the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Govt of India, in collaboration with ICAR- ICAR-National Agricultural Innovation Fund –Agri-Business Incubator.

The initiative aims to predict the future of innovation using the Triple Helix Model, focusing on how industries, governments, and academic institutions can collaborate. India ranks third in the global startup ecosystem, and incubators in Karnataka are seeking to leverage local resources to build cutting-edge technology to solve global problems. With 5-10 years of collective experience, Indian incubators are gearing up for impact in the next decade, with a promising collective horizon and the right talent.

The support system for startups, incubators, venture capital, and industry was streamlined, with a focus on leveraging resources and exchanging better operations. Cross-domain connections were made to bridge gaps in basic science, technology refinement, market trails, and pilot reach. The initiative is expected to be supported by industry and government bodies if the right synergy is established in the future. The initiative aims to ensure the sustenance of technologies developed under incubators.
