Rahul Kumar, who oversaw Lactalis India, the Indian subsidiary of French conglomerate Lactalis, has abruptly resigned from his position after nine years in the position, which left dairy industry in shock. Although Kumar verified the news, he remained silent about what would happen next.

With global yearly sales of US$ 28 billion, Lactalis is the largest group. It had entered India in January 2014 by purchasing Tirumala Dairy, which was situated in Hyderabad. Kumar has been chosen as the managing director (MD) in charge of the Lactalis India. With Kumar as MD, Lactalis continued to expand in India by making more acquisitions in 2016 and 2019, when it bought the dairy divisions of Mumbai-based Prabhat Dairy and Indian conglomerate Anik Industries, respectively. 3,700 crores in revenue were locked for the 2022–23 fiscal year.
